I use a book called Life in Christ authors Webber and Killgallon both American. The book is published by Sheed and Ward ( 07220 7809 9)

It is out of print but is easily available on Amazon. The reason I use it is that it covers the whole Catholic story from creation to death and after life. Hope you and family are all good, Fr Jim

Please can you advise if you are preparing children for their first holy communion, and when the ceremony is scheduled. Am I too late to have my child included for this year's ceremony?

We have a wonderful program for Communion, it started months ago so not sure if you can get in at this late hour. You would need to talk to Fr Jim. He can be reached at the church.

Palm Sunday Holy Week begins today with the triumphant entry of Christ into Jerusalem. Amid great rejoicing Jesus enters the holy city of Jerusalem, riding on a donkey. Ahead of him is betrayal, torture and death; but we still join our cheers with the crowds waving their palms, because we know that the route to the cross is the route to our redemption. Jesus is indeed our King.

Holy Thursday This evening we begin the three most solemn and moving liturgies of our Church year.

The Passover was the most sacred date in the Jewish calendar and still is. It is a feast which marks their liberation from slavery in Egypt. Each family was identified by the lamb’s blood on the doorposts of their home. It incorporated the sacrificing of the lamb followed by the Pascal supper. Jesus saw it as an opportune moment not just to celebrate his family feast but use the occasion to celebrate the first Mass and to ordain the apostles as his first priests. The contrast between the Passover and the Last Supper was extremely close. The chosen people ate a mealtogether and at the same time were saved by the blood of the lamb which is our Mass. The Liturgy, like that of Good Friday has no ending. These three days are one continuous Liturgy. We get an opportunity to spend a little time in reverence and gratitude until 11pm this evening by watching at the altar of Repose.

Good Friday Today we gather in silence to listen to God’s word. We relive the events of the first Good Friday as we listen to St. John’s account of the Passion. The Cross is presented to each of us to reverence as the instrument of salvation. We offer heartfelt prayers for all of mankind - fellow Christians, for those who do not, as yet, know God. Even on this sad day we are not denied our sacred nourishment as we meet Jesus in the Eucharist.

Holy Saturday On this most holy of all nights we begin with the Liturgy of Fire and Light and listen in darkness to some of the most powerful scriptures. The waters of the font are blessed. We reject the power of evil and renew our promises to God. Finally we go to the altar of sacrifice and celebrate our Easter union with Christ in Holy Communion.

Moments of Death & Resurrection

As we go through life we all experience little deaths. We get a foretaste of death when we live in bitterness, loneliness, sadness and despair. In times like these the world closes in on us, and we seem to have one foot in the grave.

But we also experience little resurrections. When we know love, acceptance, and forgiveness; when we open our hearts to others and to life, the world opens up and we emerge from the tomb.

HI can you let me know if the church is available for my daughters wedding on the 4th or 25th March 2013. She did her confirmation at the church as did my son. As this is my first wedding of a child I cant remember if you have to pay the church or give a donation. Can you advise please. Thanks Rosemary

Week of Accompanied Prayer

“A landmark in my journey of faith”

The programme during the week is flexible, and can accommodate those who work during the day or those who are housebound, whether from physical difficulties or family responsibilities. Prayer companions , from outside our parish can meet participants for private half-hour sessions daily – these can be held in the day or evening, at the church or in the participant’s home.

This is a great opportunity to find God’s presence in your life without going to a retreat centre or giving up your daily activities. There is nothing to lose and so much to gain.
