BulaButaVillage

By Dina Grant and Shelagh Klein (the November 2007 visit)
The Project
We are offering an opportunity for the members of this parish community to change the lives of the children in a small village in Ethiopia by offering them the chance to have an education.
There are 125 million children in the world who don’t have a chance to go to school. The United Nations has implemented as one of their millennium goals, that all children by the year 2015 should have at least a primary education. This doesn’t happen without the support of individual people. We are asking you to be that person, that family, that unit that takes on this gift of giving one child an education.
The 400 children in the village of Bula Buta and the surrounding area have no access to a primary education. With no transportation or road, the nearest school is a 1.5 hour walk for an adult and dangerous for a small child. Most of the parents can’t afford to feed the family and send the child to school. You are the only hope this child has for an education. By sponsoring one child’s education for a year, you not only give them that year of school, but you help change a life, a country, a continent and the world.
See Bula Buta before and after your donation.
Location
BloaButa is not on the map, it is a 2 hour drive south of Addis Abba turning left 20 miles before the town of Nazret, on a small dirt road continue for ½ hour and then start walking (with guide) for 1.5 hours to the village. The nearest water is also a 1.5 hour walk. The people make their living farming the land and raising livestock.
The Cost
- Sponsorship cost is £30 a year. All of this money is spent directly on the children. This money will pay the teachers; provide uniforms, supplies and an occasional school snack. All administration will be done voluntarily by our parish and the Capuchin priests of Ethiopia (www.capuchin.com/News/FriarArchive/Ethiopia/EthiopiaToday.htm). As a sponsor, you are committed for one year, but we hope that you will grow with these children and see them through years of education.
How do you get involved?
If you were unable to sign up at church please contact Peter or Shelagh Klein at +44 1932 254 553 or email Pklein@shpcobham.com You will be sent details shortly after and then kept informed over the course of the year via communications from the child and his teacher.
